4th Annual Wikipedia Editathon

11 October 2018 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

Come to The Steacie Science and Engineering Library on Thursday, October 11 and help us celebrate Ada Lovelace Day!

Women in the various STEM fields are generally underrepresented in Wikipedia. We need look no further than the recent case of new Nobel Laureate Donna Strickland from the University of Waterloo. When someone tried to create a Wikipedia article for her earlier this year, it was rejected because she wasn’t famous enough!

For our fourth annual celebration of Ada Lovelace Day, we’ll be gathering in the Steacie Library basement lab during the Thursday of the fall reading week and working on improving some existing Wikipedia articles for women in STEM. Drop in anytime from 10am to 5pm, any length of time is fine. We’ll have snacks and some pizza for lunch.

Don’t worry about having any previous Wikipedia editing experience. It’s easy to learn enough of the basics to make improvements to existing articles. We’ll also have a list of potential articles for you to work on.
