YorkU 3rd Annual Ada Lovelace Day Talk: From “That Shirt” to “That Other Shirt” — Finding Ways to Honour the Trailblazing Women of the Past & Future

23 October 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

A talk by Elly Zupko — equity, diversity & inclusivity activist and communications expert

Monday October 23rd 12:30pm-1:30pm
Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Building Keele Campus

In 2014, people across the world saw a lead scientist from the European Space Agency appear on international television to talk about the Philae lander mission wearing a garment covered in scantily-clad women. It became known as “that shirt.” Elly responded by designing “that other shirt,” which features over 50 notable women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).

Her successful Kickstarter campaign led to the forma- tion of a non-profit, SMLX Good, which supports STEM programmes for girls and has raised over $40,000. Hear how Elly supports women in STEM & EDI through SMLX Good.
