[ONLINE] Equate Meetup: Ada Lovelace Day

13 October 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Join us on Ada Lovelace Day to celebrate current and future women in tech.

Inspirational women from a range of professions and organisations will showcase the diverse career options that are available in this exciting area. Each speaker will share their STEM journey, top tips and things they wish they had known when they started their careers. There will be plenty of time for questions and informal networking at the end.

What to expect

  • Hear from inspirational women who will share their stories and their take on how to make your way in the professional world.
  • Get the opportunity to network, meet with leading employers in the sector, and ask questions in an informal and fun environment!
  • There will also be a short history lesson on Ada Lovelace and the importance of remembering her contribution to computing science!

You should attend if you are a girl interested in a tech career or a woman studying Tech or Computing Science, interested in exploring career opportunities or keen to learn from other women in your field. Please read our Inclusion Statement for further information.

Ceri Shaw, Chief Delivery Officer at CodeClan

With over 20 years experience in technology, working first as a software engineer and later as a technical leader, I have extensive experience of the tech sector. I have worked in several different companies across my career from small startups to large national and multinational organisations, from financial services to local government providers. Most recently I have joined CodeClan as their Chief Delivery Officer. Outside of work, I’m a co-founder of the Edinburgh Women Who Code meetup and a member of the Equate Scotland steering committee.

I’m particularly passionate about encouraging young people to start their careers in technology and I have helped and supported young women interns, apprentices and graduates in their first tech roles through both my work and through activities with Women Who Code and Equate Scotland. In my recent roles, I have led graduate/intern/apprentice initiatives to bring in more diverse candidates and give them the tools they need to build successful careers.

Cara Barron, UX Director at N-able

I head up the UX function in N-able, responsible for the teams of Designers and Researchers working on our full suite of products and tools. For me a career in the tech industry started off with a conversation about rugby and me hoping I had a chance at being a web designer with no formal education or experience in that field. Not your conventional path but 20 years later I have made this industry my home.

Aimie Coole, Data Protection Technical Specialist at Dell Technologies.

Aimie has been with Dell Technologies just over 1 year specialising in Pre Sales Data Protection previous to this she worked on the field implementing hardware and software for one of our partners, outside of work she lives an active lifestyle from the gym, paddle boarding, kayaking, cycling just to name a few. She loves to travel the world meeting new people and trying the local cuisine. Aimie works remotely and lives on the Isle of Man with her dog Dolly.
