Ada Lovelace Day at The Genome Analysis Centre, Norwich, UK
13 October 2015
FreeWe would like to celebrate women in STEM careers by welcoming TGAC scientists and staff, as well as the larger community on the Norwich Research Park to join us for tea and cupcakes and chat about the role models that inspire them into their scientific careers. We will distribute an Ada Lovelace Day @ TGAC info letter, containing a brief summary about this initiative worldwide, an interview with TGAC’s Director of Science Federica di Palma sharing her own experiences as a woman in a STEM career, her role models and views on the imbalance in gender in STEM subjects. We will hear from Peter Bickerton, TGAC Public Engagement & Society Officer about the project he is leading on “Women in Bioinformatics”. This info letter will also contain Tim Stitt (TGAC’s Head of HPC) snap interview about woman in High Performance Computing (HPC) and finally, our Head of Research Office Christine Fosker will share the active steps TGAC is doing towards a balanced gender faculty. During the actual event, on October 13th, Jamie Edwards (TGAC’s Public Engagement & Society Manager) together with Peter will host the Ada Lovelace day @ TGAC celebration and capture the views and inspirational role models from the participants.
