Tea & Tech Talk: Girls STEM Day

5 October 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Free

Ada Lovelace Day is an international holiday that recognizes the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Girls ages 8 – 14 can participate in this Ada Lovelace Day-inspired day of activities which includes Elementastic Science with Dr. Angelika Henke, Arduino, robotics, space science, Ozobot and Makey Makey games, 3D printing, flash talks by local women in STEM professions and more!  Free lunch will be provided by Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. Tea and sweet treats will also be included.

Elementastic Science: The World of Polymers with Dr. Angelika Henke
Discover the fascinating world of polymers through a diaper dissecting competition and making your own spooky spider slime.

Preregistration is required.  Please list the afternoon workshop choices in your order of preference in the Special Notes box when you register.  The workshop choices are Arduino, Robotics, and Space Science, and you will only be able to do one of them.  Class sizes are limited, but we will do our best to accommodate everyone.

  • Arduino with Isabel Mendiola of The Arduino Classroom – Build an Arduino digital thermometer that moves a fan when temperatures increase, and learn how Arduino can be used in physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Robotics with Étude EngineersRed Raider Robotics and RoboRiot teams – Learn how to build and program a robot to complete a task.
  • Space Science with the Sheboygan Astronomical Society and Carol Munroe – Model the solar system, create a star map, test-drive an emulated Mars rover, and learn about telescopes.

Persons with disabilities who need accommodations to attend should contact the library.  Seven days are required for a sign language interpreter request.
