Ada Lovelace Day Forum: Celebrating Women in STEMM at UTS

8 October 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Free

The UTS Faculty of Science are celebrating Ada Lovelace Day with a panel discussion, networking event with refreshments in collaboration with UTS Library and the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion. Ada Lovelace was a 19th century English mathematician whose expertise and vision of computing’s possibilities, were unmatched by any of her peers. Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, maths & medicine (STEMM).

The celebration aims to increase the profile and intake of women into STEMM fields, research, subjects and vocations. The forum will address ways in which both individuals and institutions can support women to flourish in their chosen fields. Be inspired by our guest speakers from UTS who will discuss their passions, defining moments and what drives their research.

The event will be opened by Professor Dianne Jolley, Dean, Faculty of Science and will be hosted by Dr Arti Argrawal, Director of Women in Engineering and IT, FEIT.

The forum will feature women working in STEMM fields at UTS. Guest speakers include:

  • Dr Lana McClements – UTS Lecturer, School of Life Sciences
  • Dr Donna Sutherland – Research Fellow, Climate Change Cluster UTS (C3) Core Member.
  • Dr Maria Sukkar – Associate Professor, UTS School of Pharmacy
  • Professor Joanne Tipper – Head of School, UTS Biomedical Engineering & Director, Centre for Health Technologies (CHT)
  • Professor Myriam Amielh – Associate Dean of External Engagement in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT)
