9 October @ 6:30 am - 9:30 am

$5

STEM Wana Trust and Norman Disney Young proudly presents Ada Lovelace Day 2024

You’re invited to an exclusive breakfast panel event and live stream of the official Ada Lovelace Day Live (streamed from London, UK).

When: Wednesday 9th October 2024 at 7:30am. A light breakfast will be served from 6:45am.

Where: The Commercial Bay Meeting & Event Suites, PwC Tower, Level 2, 15 Customs Street West, Auckland

Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths. It also inspired our award winning Tauranga STEM Festival!

Join us in Auckland as we live-stream part of the celebrations of Ada Lovelace Day Live from London along with a very special panel of Aotearoa New Zealand’s very own wahine women in STEM. Our goal is to raise awareness of the amazing accomplishments of women in STEM and to inspire girls to pursue careers in STEM, shaping a more inclusive future together.

Featuring:

Janet Van Jenkins (MC) – Janet is currently the General Manager of electronics and software engineering firm at FlexWare, and the Programme Manager for Wānanga Nohinohi te Kunenga at Children’s University Massey. She is on a mission to help make tech education accessible and equitable for all Kiwi kids.

Shalini Guleria – Shalini recently finished her PhD, working at the Liggins Institute and will soon be moving into a new role as a clinical research associate with Aotearoa Clinical Trials. She also runs a social enterprise called “Science Box” that aims to teach young kids science in an innovative and accessible way. She is passionate about science communication and education and uses social media platforms such instagram (70.1 K followers) and tiktok (26.7k followers) to communicate everyday science as well as the latest science news.

Annie Vella – Annie is a lifelong computer enthusiast and self-professed nerd, with a particular interest in software development. As a backend software engineer, she’s designed and built systems for a variety of industries across four countries. Nowadays, she leads technology teams and champions a culture of curiosity, learning and excellence in engineering.

Reneé Young – Reneé is an Associate Director for NDY, an engineering consultancy that designs the Built Environment. She leads the Mechanical Engineering section. She is passionate about using her opportunity and privilege as a leader to continue to break through barriers and build legacies by raising awareness, navigating obstacles and creating safe spaces for diversity in STEM. Reneé was also the STEMFest Ambassador for 2023.

Hinke Osinga – Hinke is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Auckland. Her passion in mathematics is research in dynamical systems — the analysis and geometric investigation of mechanisms that organise behaviour when it changes with time. Hinke’s research unexpectedly led her into craft and art when she turned her computer-generated images of chaotic behaviour into an intriguing crocheted object that embodies unpredictability in a hands-on way.

About Ada Lovelace Day

Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician, an associate of “The Father of Computing” Charles Babbage, she was responsible for translating an article by the military engineer Luigi Menabrea about Babbage’s Analytical Engine, supplementing it with an elaborate set of seven notes, simply called “Notes”. She is considered by many to be the first computer programmer.

Ada Lovelace day is celebrated on the second Tuesday of October (Northern Hemisphere time) with an internationally live streamed event, Ada Lovelace Day Live, hosted by The Royal Institution in London, where this year seven women will talk about their work or research in front of a packed crowd. This event is live streamed and watch parties join in from around the globe. For more details visit: www.findingada.com
