Computing Herstory

9 October 2019 @ 10:30 am - 10 October 2019 @ 2:30 pm

Free

Two days of fast-paced, all-day activities perfect for KS3 students, our Ada Lovelace Day events for schools encourage girls and boys to engage with technology and STEM.

Ada Lovelace wrote the world’s first complex algorithm in 1843 and was then written out of history until recently. Her story explains why everyone should get involved with computers to help create our future!

The day starts with a series of 3 activities in small groups in the morning: a Women in Computing Tour in our main gallery, a Micro:bit workshop in our classroom and a fun session around computer architecture in our MegaProcessor Zone.

After lunch, there’ll be an informative talk on cybersecurity by staff from our partners Darktrace – real women who are working in computing fields today who can inspire your students to consider it as a career.

There will also be a Computing Herstory exhibition – students can learn about women from the past and the present who did or do amazing things in computing and STEM. Together they can think about how STEM can form part of their own futures.

This event is FREE but bookings must be made through our standard event booking system. Please choose which of the days you’d like to attend. You will not be asked for payment details.

Please note that students will need to stay for the whole day.
