DESCRIPTION:ReFIGuk are delighted to announce the xx+ games jam\, 24 hours of fun and games design for women\, transgender and non-binary people funded by ReFIG.  UK sites are running in Brighton\, Bristol\, Leamington Spa & London. \nXX+ Games Jam is an international jam\, happening over 24 hours at 5 sites in the UK and 2 sites in Canada.  The Jams will be a relaxed affair that welcomes all talents\, professions and skill levels.  Any kind of game can be created (digital\, physical\, paper) and teams will be formed to work around a theme to be announced at the start of the jam on  Friday that is a secret until Canada starts too! \nNo background in tech or previous programming experience is needed – we need artists\, sound designers\, organisers\, writers – and enthusiasm to come up with cool game ideas!  People will be on hand to help out where you need. \nDrinks\, snacks and tech support will all be available – the venues will be open from 6-10pm on Friday and then til 6pm on Saturday. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Ziqian (Cecilia) Dong\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New York Institute of Technology will be our guest speaker during Common Hour\, 11:15 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. Hofstra University.  Her presentation will describe her work using sensors to create safe environments for Parkinson’s patients\, and explain the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at NYIT funded by the National Science Foundation. \nStudents from high schools near Hofstra will be attending the lecture as guests\, and learn more about the sponsoring School of Engineering and Applied Science programs in a tour of the school facilities with several demonstrations.

DESCRIPTION:The IELLEN is partnering with Capital City LLEN\, Women in Science and Engineering\, Lateral Magazine\, BrainSTEM and more to hold the first Melbourne based  Ada Lovelace Day event. Held around the world in October\, Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) events are about inspiring young women to pursue STEM careers in greater numbers. This ALD event is aimed at Secondary School aged girls and their parents\, and will include a variety  of presentations\, STEM activities and an Ada Lovelace Day resource pack. It will be held on Wednesday  12 October from 6pm at the Royal Society of Victoria.

DESCRIPTION:Ada Lovelace Day Live! is our flagship ‘science cabaret’ event which this year will be held at The IET on the evening of 11 October. Playing host to the UK’s most fabulous women in STEM\, ALD Live is an entertaining evening of geekery\, comedy and music suitable for everyone over the age of 12. \nOur amazing speakers are: \n\nYewande Akinola\, design engineer focused on sustainable water supply systems and the engineering design coordination of large projects in the built environment.\nDr Sheila Kanani\, planetary physicist\, science presenter\, secondary school physics teacher and space comedienne with a background in astrophysics and astronomy.\nDr Kat Arney\, science writer and broadcaster whose work has featured in the New Scientist\, Wired\, the Guardian\, the Times Educational Supplement\, BBC Radio 4\, the Naked Scientists and more.\nJenny Duckett\, developer with the Government Digital Service.\nDr Sara Santos\, mathematician\, director and founder of Maths Busking.\nDr Bissan Al-Lazikani\, computational biologist working on drug discovery for Cancer Research UK.\nDr Anna Jones\, deputy science leader for the British Antarctic Survey’s Atmosphere\, Ice and Climate Team.\n\nYou can find out more about our fabulous speakers on our event page! \nLobby doors open at 6.30pm\, the performance will begin at 7.30pm and will run until approximately 9.30pm.
