SUMMARY:[ONLINE] Atomic Poems
DESCRIPTION:A unique evening of science\, history and creativity to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day and the Atomic Poems written by Margaret Cavendish.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAda Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art and Maths (STEAM). We’re celebrating the day by exploring the amazing Atomic Poems written by Margaret Cavendish in the 1650s\, who is considered to be the first female natural philosopher and a truly influential figure in science and literature. \nWe invite you to join this free one-hour Zoom workshop where you will be guided by artists and creative technologists to create poetry through code. \nJoin artist Cora Glasser and poet Hannah Cooper-Smithson to write a short piece of text themed around Margaret Cavendish and her time at Bolsover Castle. Then try your hand at our online Fibonacci Poetry Generator to turn your words into a unique piece of coded poetry\, guided by creative technologist Claire Garside. \nFor more info about Margaret Cavendish and Fibonacci Poetry go to https://thisgirl.codes/atomic-poems/ \nEverybody can take part\, so don’t worry if you haven’t done any coding or creative writing before – or even if you just want to watch! There will be a chance to meet the artists and chat about the project after the workshop 8-8.30pm. \nAfter the Workshop \nArtist Cora Glasser will 3D print the Fibonacci poems written on the evening to create an installation at Bolsover Castle. (Late October / early November 2020) \nThis Girl Codes has ambitious plans to work with the National Trust at Hardwick Hall and Creswell Crags over the next two years\, engagingr women of all ages in Bolsover and North East Derbyshire to develop a new community heritage story of national significance. \nFind out more about the project on our website www.thisgirl.codes
