SUMMARY:Ada Lovelace Lecture by Miranda Seymour
DESCRIPTION:The University of Nottingham invites you to a free lecture on Ada Lovelace Day (8th of October 2019) about this amazing historical figure.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe University of Nottingham’s Schools of Computer Science and English\, and Creative and Digital Interdisciplinary Research Cluster\, invite you to a free lecture on Ada Lovelace Day 2019. Ada Lovelace Day is about celebrating the achievements of women in Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Maths (STEM). In doing so it aims to increase the profile of women in STEM\, create new role models\, encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women working in STEM. In 2019 we want to mark the occasion by reflecting on the amazing life of Ada Lovelace herself. As well as making an incredible contribution in the history of computing\, Ada Lovelace also has fascinating literary connections through her father\, the renowned poet\, Lord Byron. \nThat is why we are delighted to welcome Miranda Seymour to the University of Nottingham to give a lecture at 5pm on Tuesday 8 October. Miranda is a novelist\, biographer and critic. She has been a visiting professor at Nottingham Trent University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Her new book In Byron’s Wake: The Turbulent Lives of Lady Byron and Ada Lovelace\, has been awarded the international Byron studies prize. Miranda’s ancestral home of Thrumpton Hall\, situated 7 miles west of Nottingham\, was also home to Ada Lovelace.
