SUMMARY:Me\, myself and I: A very personal journey
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Prof. Maria fasli will be describing how she has gone about her professional career\, navigating the occasionally nebulous world of academia. This is about a very personal journey\, the trials and tribulations\, lessons learnt but also breakthroughs and successes. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMaria is currently a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE)\, University of Essex and she has been Head of School since 2009. She has published in the field of artificial intelligence and multi-agent systems and has been involved in organising/chairing and reviewing for international events as well as reviewing journal articles and research proposals. In 2005\, she was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy for her innovations and contributions in learning and teaching and supporting the student experience. Her research has been funded by agencies such as EPSRC\, ESRC\, TSB\, and the Higher Education Academy. \nAbout Ada Lovelace Day:\nAda Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science\, technology\, engineering and maths (STEM). Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer. She was the first to recognise that machines (such as Babbage’s mechanical general-purpose computer\, the Analytical Engine) could be used for more than pure calculation. She published the first algorithm intended to be carried out by such machines. For this\, she is regarded as the first computer programmer.
