SUMMARY:[ONLINE] LA Opera Connects - The Science of Opera
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US HERE ON TUESDAY\, OCTOBER 13\, 2020 FOR ADA LOVELACE DAY\nAda Lovelace (1815-1852) is considered to be the “mother of computer science.” Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science\, technology\, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) held on the second Tuesday of October. \nEDGE OF A DREAM\nThis fall\, Ada’s story will be told in operatic form in Edge of a Dream\, a new work by composer Juhi Bansal and librettist Neil Aitken. It’s LA Opera Connects’ newest Secondary In-School Opera\, created to be rehearsed\, assembled and performed online over a five-week period by students from ten local high schools. We’re joining in on Ada Lovelace Day by releasing a Behind the Curtain podcast featuring a conversation on Edge of a Dream with the creators (Bansal and Aitken) and the director\, Eli Villanueva. \nLISTEN HERE TUESDAY \nNEW MEDIA AND OPERA FUTURE TENSE\nWe are thrilled to continue our celebration of Ada Lovelace Day with highlights from our first academic conference: New Media and Opera Future Tense\, held in February 2020. Listen in as woman scholars from across Southern California present their innovative ideas in S.T.E.A.M. (science\, technology\, engineering\, arts\, and math) and the future of the art form. (audio recordings coming Tuesday\, October 13) \nUsing New Media to Expand Opera Audiences\n– Dr. Kristi Brown–Montesano\, Colburn School Conservatory of Music \nNotes from Her\n– Xochitl S.
