DESCRIPTION:On behalf of Maths4Girls\, we would like to invite you to join the launch of a major campaign for Maths4Girls on Ada Lovelace Day at Google HQ\, London. \nCurrently only two in five girls go on to study maths beyond GCSE\, many fewer than boys. At a time when the World Economic Forum has named maths in the top 10 most desirable skills for jobs in all industries by 2025. Maths4Girls is an initiative run by the Charity Founders4Schools\, which is pioneering a national campaign to inspire and empower 11–14-year-old girls to pursue maths to achieve their ambitions. The mission is to reach 250\,000 girls (16% of TAM) with a maths role model by June 2024. \nThe Maths4Girls campaign creates opportunities to connect young girls with inspirational and successful women. By forming new connections across a wide range of industries\, Maths4Girls is giving girls more choice about the direction of their futures\, making maths a priority in school and beyond\, and encouraging positive change in the secondary education framework. \nWhere? The event will be taking place at Google HQ in St Pancras Square\, London. \nWhen? On 10 October: We would be delighted if you would be able to join us\, diary permitting. DESCRIPTION:This free webinar\, hosted by the Institute of Physics in partnership with ed-tech charity F4S\, will show young people just how powerful physics is and help them discover the career pathways studying physics can lead to. \nUnfortunately\, some young people are put off of pursuing physics from the misconceived ideas of what is\, and others are denied the opportunity to study physics due to the prejudice and stereotypes that they experience because of who they are. \nAs a result\, too many young people are made to feel that they can’t do physics\, or they just don’t ‘fit in’. F4S and the IOP are working together to combat this issue and inspire the next generation of physicists by connecting them with real life role models. \nThis webinar is held as part of F4S’s Role Model Week campaign\, sponsored by the Institute of Physics\, which aims to raise awareness of the impact role models have on young lives and help to provide relatable role models for all children\, regardless of their socio-economic background.
