SUMMARY:Gender equality: have we fixed it yet?
DESCRIPTION:We’ve got a woman Scottish First Minster\, a woman Prime Minister in the UK and a strong US presidential candidate. Does that mean we’ve got that gender equality thing sorted? Isn’t feminism just something that ladies got all grumpy about in the 70s? Women and men have equal pay\, right?  Sadly\, the answer to all these questions is “no”. In my talk I will explain the ways in which gender inequality persists and I’ll show that gender inequality is alive and well on university campuses on the UK. But it won’t all be doom and gloom – I’ll make some practical suggestions of what students\, lecturers and employers can do to tackle these problems. And I’ll aim to convince you that when it’s better for women\, it’s better for everyone. \nWe are delighted to welcome Professor Judy Robertson from the University of Edinburgh. Judy’s research includes Computer Science education\, and the development of computational thinking skills as well as design\, development and evaluation of serious games for education and health\, primarily with children. \nAn opportunity to meet Judy over drinks and nibbles will follow the lecture.
