The book stall is available from 6:30pm until the performance starts at about 7:30pm. \nDr Aarathi Prasad will also be joining us to sign copies of her newest book\, Silk: A History in Three Metamorphoses before the performance. SUMMARY:Women in Science Workshop and Wiki Edit-a-thon October 2015
DESCRIPTION:Manchester University is hosting a workshop followed by a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon event. Both will be held in the School of Computer Science\, University of Manchester. The aim of the half-day event is to celebrate Ada Lovelace who\, this year\, celebrates 200 years as a computer visionary. We hope to raise awareness of women in science\, hear personal stories and help to improve (and increase) the content on Wikipedia’s pages about female scientists. \nThe workshop speakers will share their stories about their personal journey\, current position (and any progression) and experience as a woman in science. Speakers are encouraged to highlight the industry-academic links and share their experience working with (or alongside) industry and how this complements/enhances their career. They will share different skills acquired\, future plans/aspirations\, advice for others\, choices made\, challenges faced\, hints/tips\, support (initiatives/role models who have been supportive)\, positive changes you have seen for women\, how they maintain a work-life balance\, etc. Also anything else that would be interesting and relevant to share about their story as a woman in a male-dominated field. \nWomen in Science Workshop and Wiki Edit-a-thon October 2015

If you’d like to enjoy a taster\, take a look at our videos from 2014 and 2013! \nOur confirmed speakers include: \nAbigail Hutty \n \nAbbie Hutty is senior spacecraft structures engineer on Airbus’ ExoMars Rover Project. She gained her master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Surrey University where she received several awards and prizes for her achievements\, including for her master’s thesis on the use of composites in spacecraft structures. She joined Astrium at Stevenage\, now Airbus Defence and Space\, as a mechanical engineer in 2010\, and now leads a team of specialists in the design of the ExoMars Rover Vehicle Structure. In 2013\, she was selected as the IMechE’s Young Member of the Year and later named as the IET’s Young Woman Engineer of the Year. \nTwitter \nDr Jen Gupta \n \nDr Jen Gupta is an astrophysicist and science communicator based in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth. Jen loves to talk about space to anyone who will listen\, and in her spare time can be found presenting planetarium shows at the Winchester Science Centre and helping to organise the Winchester Science Festival. \nWeb – Twitter \nDr Suze Kundu \n Credit: Ed Prosser\, Royal Institution \nDr Sujata Kundu is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London.
