Celebrating Women in STEM at Intelliware on October 10th

10 October 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

This year, October 10th is a special day at Intelliware. This day is aimed at celebrating and educating girls and women about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and STEM-related fields.  Not only will we be hosting our sixth annual Ada Lovelace Day Celebration, we will also be hosting a Meetup for Toronto’s Women Who Code Organization.

Ada Lovelace Day

Ada Lovelace was an accomplished mathematician and writer, widely known for her algorithmic contribution to the Analytical Engine. Her plan to calculate Bernoulli numbers using the engine is now widely considered as the world’s first computer program. Thus, proving that the discussion of women in technology dates back to before the industry existed.

Ada has become a symbol for women in STEM fields, to celebrate her accomplishments, Intelliware invites local middle and high school students to the office to become more educated in STEM-based careers. The celebration will take place from 3:30 – 5:00pm, with an office tour, an informal discussion regarding the career paths in STEM and a surprise hands-on activity.

If you are interested in joining us for our Ada Lovelace Day Celebration, please e-mail us.

Women Who Code Toronto – A Deep Dive into Blockchain

Our celebration of women in STEM will continue into the evening with Toronto’s Women Who Code. An estimated 100 Women from the Women Who Code Toronto Organization will be taking over the Intelliware DevSpace to listen to our Chief Technologist BC Holmes discuss Blockchain. BC Holmes will take a deep dive into Blockchain, the invisible technology that’s changing the world. She will discuss the applications of Blockchain, developments in the technology, and why it’s a big deal.

BC often works with leading-edge technologies and has successfully delivered dozens of software projects. With over 25 years of software development experience, she has architected, designed, implemented, evolved, supported, tweaked, and improved numerous systems in many industries — with a particular focus on the financial, healthcare and mobile sectors.

Knowing how important diversity is to success, we hope to encourage more women to realize that technology is a viable profession, leading to a rewarding, enjoyable career.
