Description
The Women’s Engineering Society is a professional, not-for-profit network of women engineers, scientists and technologists offering inspiration, support and professional development. Working in partnership, we campaign to encourage women to participate and achieve as engineers, scientists and as leaders.

Prizes, awards and honours

  • The WES Prize for the best young engineer
  • The Karen Burt Award for the best newly qualified chartered engineer.
  • The Gillian Skinner Award recognises “behind the scenes” contributions to WES by volunteers who are not on the WES council.
  • The Isabel Hardwich Medal is presented to WES members who have made an outstanding contribution above the call of duty to the society over a sustained period.

Grants

  • The Doris Gray award is a grant given in Scotland to encourage women to become professional engineers.
  • The Lady Finniston Award is a grant which is made to enable women, who otherwise might be prevented from doing so on grounds of hardship, to take up places on a recognised first engineering degree or HND courses in British universities or colleges.

Events
Annual national events include a summer conference, a student conference and a Prestige Lecture. Regional and local events also occur on a regular basis.
